Spridd won as building architects with Brf. Solfjädern the land allocation competition for two properties in Skogsvallen, Linköping.
Here, the new development is based on the ideal of the classic garden city with well-designed street spaces and clear boundaries between the private and the public. Solfjädern harmonizes with the surrounding areas, integrating with their natural values and a dense, low-rise construction along the local street. The framed sun garden to the south brings life towards the street, while the secluded garden to the north provides space for cultivation or gatherings.
A common thread throughout our project concept is an ecological thinking, embracing rich greenery, solutions for climate-smart movement in the city and planning that promotes social interaction. The project interweaves the communal and private spaces in a playful manner. All townhouses have a small sun garden facing the local street with space for, among other things, box-bike parking clearly separated by hedge. Within the block there is also space for communal urban cultivation, something that more and more people are interested in. Individual waste bins have been removed and replaced with common waste stations at strategic locations. The proposal also includes a box-bike pool that can be used by everyone in the association to further promote environmental friendly alternatives to cars.
Thanks to the homes' extra high ground floor, unobstructed sight lines are created indoors, which makes the floor plans feel extra generous. The ground floor brings together the social functions of the houses with accessible entrances from both sides, upstairs is 3–4 individual rooms with views of surrounding small residential blocks.
