The Million Programme
Social sustainability - 10 years of work with the Million Programme
Spridd has been working with the Million Programme ever since the office was founded in 2005. A decade later, we can notice that the work has paid off. During the Business Arena Stockholm in September this year, focus of the discussion on social sustainability has been the question of renovation and completion of the Million Programme. Both Spridd founders, Ola Broms Wessel and Klas Ruin, have participated as speakers in seminars on the subject.
Spridds work began with the publication of the debate book "We live in the same city" which was published in 2005. The book laid the foundation for the work that later revolved between research and projects. Whether the work is related to supplementing buildings or reconstruction of the individual houses, the focus is on the process. To change a housing environment requires working through various stages on several levels while cooperating with different actors. For this purpose we have developed methods and support tools such as the Million Programmes Watch, a 12 point model.
The office has among other things been supported by the Delegation for Sustainable Cities. Among projects there is an award-winning proposal of the Nordic Built to Challenge for the project of the Fittja People's Palace. Fittja People's Palace is an ongoing project for the renovation of a tower block in Fittja for Botkyrkabyggen in cooperation with NCC. Other projects involve refurbishment of a local centre building, construction of public facilities such as a mosque in Rinkeby, the new models of public places such as Unispace in Akalla and several other projects. The office also received international acknowledgement for the Fittja pavilion at the Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2014.
